Projects in Map

In recent years, we have completed various projects for Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Public Works and Water Management), various water boards, and major cities in the Netherlands. In these projects, our clients and we have taken the first steps in tackling the plastic waste problem in waterways. The overview below shows various completed and ongoing projects.

Featured Projects

Gjin Plastik nei us Waad

Stopping the supply of macro and microplastics to the Wadden Sea by generating good insight into the extent of the problem. The project goal is also to demonstrate that an effective approach to this problem is possible through good cooperation between local and central governments.

Stop Plastic van Stad naar Wad

The aim of this project is to stop plastics from traveling from land into the Wadden Sea. To achieve this as effectively as possible, we focus on truly understanding the problem.

We have chosen a practical, action-oriented approach — learning by doing. The insights gained are openly shared, ensuring that the knowledge and lessons from this project also benefit other regions and initiatives beyond its original scope.

CirCleaner comissioned by Rotterdam

The CirCleaner in the Keilehaven is our first waste collection system that is now purchased by the Municipality of Rotterdam. It is part of a larger approach in the city to reduce waste to the sea and obtain cleaner waters. System is fully solar-powered and adapts its removal moments to the tides. As the supply of plastics is mainly available during high water periods, we can save energy and tackle the problem as sustainably as possible.

HORIZON INSPIRE: 2023-2027

Within HORIZON INSPIRE, Noria is involved in demonstrating the CirCleaner’s potential to remove plastic pellets from the European Rivers.

During this project, Noria will lead and demonstrate the case study at Rhine River. CirCleaner technology will be implemented with the combination of Citizen Science to demonstrate the solution at one of the harbours of Rotterdam.

INTERREG TREASURE: 2023-2026

For the TREASURE project, Noria is in charge of conducting the Research, Removal and Reuse activities to reduce the plastic pollution that ends up in the North Sea. During this project, Noria will be working in the Dutch Living Lab and leading the Removal Piller activities for the Dutch Living Lab. Noria will be actively involved in the activity focusing on plastic monitoring, removal, governance and policy.

Solving the Urban Plastic Soup

Urban plastic waste is a significant source of plastic pollution in rivers and oceans. This project focuses on addressing the economic, socio-economic and environmental impact of this pollution. Noria’s CanalCleaner is installed at this location this summer. The purpose of the system is to capture the plastic flows before they leave the city of Amsterdam

Pilot Plasticvrij water in Leeuwarden

During this pilot, the CanalCleaner was installed at several locations to examine how effectively it can remove plastics from the water under varying weather conditions.

The pilot was conducted at three different sites within the city center of Leeuwarden. The “Plastic-Free Water in Leeuwarden” project was carried out in 2021, commissioned by the Municipality of Leeuwarden.
