An increasing amount of surface water is polluted with plastics. This is not only harmful to people and the environment, but it also reduces the recreational and aesthetic value of waterways. Eventually, much of this plastic ends up in the ocean, according to the WWF, up to 80% of marine litter originates from land. That’s why it’s essential to remove plastic waste as close to the source as possible; efficiently, sustainably, and safely.
For this purpose, Noria developed the CirCleaner: a smart, sustainable system that effectively removes plastics ranging in size from 5 mm to 90 cm from the water. The CirCleaner is suitable for any water body with a clear flow direction, such as rivers and canals, and can also be installed near pumping stations or harbor entrances to intercept floating litter before it travels further downstream.

No disturbance, just efficiency
The CirCleaner’s design is based on proven principles and built with simplicity and reliability in mind. The system resembles a closed, floating wheel with a diameter of about 3.5 meters, compact enough to operate without obstructing navigation.
Inside, a hollow axle holds five scoops that rotate against the water flow. Floating guide booms direct litter toward the CirCleaner, where the scoops lift the plastic waste and deposit it through an opening into the enclosed central container.
Because the container is sealed, there are no odour or hygiene issues — an important advantage in urban environments. A large side hatch allows for easy and quick emptying.
The CirCleaner is generally powered by shore electricity, but a solar-powered version is also possible, enabling fully autonomous, off-grid operation anywhere in the world.
